Best Books I Read in 2013

I read 105 books this year, which is significantly fewer than what I’ve read in years past. 2013 was the year of Working My Ass Off in the workplace and not having as much time as I’d like (or just being too wiped out in the evenings) to read. But 105 is still a great number, and I read quite a few books that were absolutely fantastic. Here are the top 10 books that have truly stuck with me this year:

Far From the Tree: Parents, Children, and the Search for Identity by Andrew Solomon
Me Before You by Jojo Moyes
Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell
Ask the Passengers by A.S. King
People Who Eat Darkness: The True Story of a Young Woman Who Vanished from the Streets of Tokyo – and the Evil that Swallowed Her Up by Richard Lloyd Parry
A Place at the Table by Susan Rebecca White
Lean In: Women, Work and the Will to Lead by Sheryl Sandburg
The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay
Rose Under Fire by Elizabeth Wein
Ade by Rebecca Walker

In past years I’ve had such a hard time narrowing my list to just ten but this year these ones stuck out to me so far and above the rest of everything else I read. I read a lot of good books this year and even some great ones, but these ten are the ones that truly blew me away, were just so fantastic that I want everyone to read them. Including you. šŸ™‚

  1. Great list! Me Before You was on my 2012 list…loved it! I have Rainbow Rowell books on my ereader..yay. A Place at the Table was so good, but there were so many good books that my favorites list was getting even longer than the 15 I shared…ha ha. 105 is a great # of books. You really did work your ass off…hoping 2014 is good to you!! Happy New Year.

  2. Everything Rainbow did this year blew me away, and so did Sea of Tranquility! I read 109 this year, and when I talked about it on FB, I wasn’t really bragging. For many bloggers (including me) that isn’t such a great number based on what I’ve done in the past. We will see what happens to my numbers now that I’m not officially reviewing them!

    1. I know, I’m used to 150 or more! But you know what, when I was having dinner with friends on NYE, reflecting upon the year, I have no regrets. Everything I did this year was done for the right reasons, and my career is stronger for it. I’m happy with my number. šŸ™‚

  3. I read 3 of those books last year and they all made my best of list as well. We must have very similar taste in books so I’m making note of the rest of your favorites. Happy New Year!

  4. What is this Me Before You everyone os raving about? Must check it out. Confession: apart from that and People Who Eat Darkness, I don’t know any of the books or authors in your list! :S
