My first vlog!

Okay… I did it.  I actually recorded a vlog.  It was a scary experience, let me tell you.  But here it is…

A couple of things to note:

  • My excessive use of “um” and “like”.  These are words I tend to use more frequently when I am nervous, so… there ya have it.
  • I used the word “compilation” instead of “companion” but was too lazy to go back and rerecord that part.  I do actually know that the word “compilation” does not belong in that sentence. 🙂
  • My constant fidgeting at the beginning of the vlog.  Before picking up the books, I couldn’t figure out what to do with my hands.
  • Playing with my hair.  Something I do WAY too much of in real life; in fact I rarely wear my hair down because of my temptation to constantly mess with it.
  • I have a big scar down the middle of my chest – from my two open heart surgeries that I had as a kid.

So what do you think?  Did I manage to be successful with my first vlog, or do I just sound stupid?

  1. You don’t sound stupid at all! I’m particularly looking forward to your thoughts on the Atwood, French Milk and Between Mom and Jo 🙂

  2. Heather, you did very well. I liked how you help the books up so that we could see the whole cover. Sometimes that doesn’t seem to happen when bloggers try to share them. I’ve got Wrong Mother here to read and I’m glad to hear you say that it is good. It looks spooky. That bathtub on the front. I think I always associate bathtubs with scary things. 🙂 Thanks for sharing with us!

    1. Thanks, Kay! It was actually hard to do the cover thing because I couldn’t see it as I was doing it so I couldn’t tell if they were clearly visible. But it worked out! I’m hoping you enjoy The Wrong MOther as much as I am enjoying it. 🙂

  3. Yay!!!

I loved seeing and hearing you: you’re so pretty. And I want my hair to look like yours! I didn’t even notice your scar. That’s crazy you had open heart surgeries as a kid!

The cover of The World in Half is so pretty. French Milk is a really fast read; I think it took me less than an hour. 🙂 (I might have read it in a bookstore. *cough*) Squee! Tropical Fish! I really hope you love it as much as I did. Or even half as much. 😀

In conclusion: great vlog! Go you! Hope I see more in the future. 😀

    1. Aww Eva you are way too sweet! I hate my hair, lol. But I’m glad it looks pretty on camera. 🙂

I am REALLY looking forward to Tropical Fish, I’m sure I’ll love it!

Thanks for encouraging me to do this!

  4. I think you did a great job, and I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts on those books. I have Year of the Flood but haven’t read it yet, as some bloggers have said you should read Oryx and Crake first, which I haven’t. I’m especially looking forward to that review…and another vlog!

  5. Aw, I loved seeing & hearing you, Heather! I also enjoyed seeing your kitty in the background:) and of course hearing about all the books! It’s so funny b/c I think we are self-conscious about things we personally notice about ourselves that others wouldn’t even notice if we didn’t bring attention to them (like playing w/your hair & your scar… I think I knew you over a year before I even noticed you had a scar!). I hope you do more of these, you did good!

    1. Thanks, Teale, I really appreciate your kind words! And lol about my kitty – I had no idea she crept into the background until I watched the video back! 🙂 I totally agree about us being self-conscious about things that others don’t even notice. When I was watching the video I was SO annoyed with myself for playing with my hair, but I’m sure it’s not nearly as noticeable as I feel like it was!

  6. You did great Heather. I don’t even know how to create a Vlog, although I am pretty sure my computer has the technology! You have some terrific books to read this month 🙂 It was nice to put a voice and face to your blog 🙂

  7. Great blog! I think you did very well 🙂 I’ve heard SO many good things about Margaret Atwood that I think I should just go read her and join the club. All the books you’re reading sound so good! Oh, my poor wish list…

    1. Thank you so much! I highly recommend trying out an Atwood novel. My first one was The Handmaid’s Tale, which is seriously awesome, and I would highly recommend starting there. Plus it’s short so if you don’t love it then it’s okay. 🙂

  8. You did great! It seems like talking to that darn camera is as nerve wracking as talking to a room full of strangers for just about everyone but after watching you do such a great job on your first try, I’m tempted to try it myself.

    1. Well, I wouldn’t go as far as to say it was as nerve-wracking as talking in front of a room of people … that type of thing makes me want to throw up, I’m extremely self-conscious when in front of people live. The camera thing was much easier, but still very nerve-inducing! I highly recommend doing a vlog, Lisa. It was scary but more fun than I expected. 🙂

  9. The fact that you could be looking down at the camera and not have five chins has me green with envy. Oh, um, and the stuff about the books was great (I know that’s the most important part. Really).

  10. Great job! You are much braver than I! I loved seeing the covers of the books you have on deck for March – many of them look quite good and they are all new to me. Enjoy!

  11. That was cool — you don’t really sound nervous at all! I hope you’re still enjoying Year of the Flood. I want to read more Atwood, but I have to space her out because too much all at once tends to be too much of a good thing.

  12. I liked your vlog! Something fun and different. And a lot of interesting book choices too. I look forward to hearing your reviews of that stack!
