Product Review: The Book Buddy

About a month or so ago, I was contacted by the fabulous Mandy Blake from Reading Comfort.  Reading Comfort specializes in products for book lovers, and Mandy asked me if I’d be interested in reviewing one of their products, The Book Buddy.  Since I’d never done a product review before, I was somewhat hesitant but figured I might as well give it a try.  Well, Mandy was so sweet and promptly sent one out to me literally days from my reply.  And I’m very happy that I decided to review it, because the Book Buddy is a REALLY nice accessory for book lovers and voracious readers like myself.

So, the Book Buddy is basically a small pillow to rest your book on.  It has ribbons to hold the front and back covers in place as well as diagonal ribbons which adjust to hold the page you’re on – so basically you can read without holding the book up or needing to keep your finger on your page.  It’s VERY helpful for reading while laying down on your stomach or on your side, and I personally like to read cross-legged a lot, so it was nice not to have to hold my book up, or strain my neck while looking down.  The Book Buddy allowed me to read at the exact right position for my body.  Let me illustrate with a few pictures.

Here’s a picture of my Book Buddy just laying on my couch.  You can kind of see it next to some throw pillows, and if you can tell by the picture, it’s about the same size as a typical throw pillow you’d find on a couch or bed.  Very convenient and easy to find space for, and since it comes in tons of colors and patterns, it would be easy to find something that would match the decor of your living room or bedroom, and it could simply be used as decoration while not in use.  I think the design on this one is so pretty!

The picture on the right is me reading on my couch with my Book Buddy.  As you can see, I am able to keep the book in my lap while sitting up straight and not at all craning my neck.  For those of us who spend hours upon hours of reading, it’s very nice not to be in pain after a few hours!

My favorite thing about the Book Buddy, though, is the fact that you can use it to hold your laptop on your lap.  It comes with a hard, flat, plastic board that secures in the ribbons that can be used with a laptop.  I LOVE this feature because frequently in the evenings while my husband and I are watching TV I’ll also be blogging or reading blogs or email or whatnot, and I’ll be laying back with my laptop in my lap, and my legs get so hot.  It’s also not the most comfortable thing to have on your lap.  The Book Buddy definitely solves this problem.  This feature of the Book Buddy can also be used for those readers who like to take notes or highlight stuff in their books – the book will still remain in place and is easier to read, but the hard surface allows you to write or highlight to your heart’s content!  To the left is a lovely picture of me using my laptop with my Book Buddy.

The Book Buddy would make a great addition to any reader’s home, and I also think it would make a fantastic gift.  Reading Comfort has tons of other book accessories in addition to the Book Buddy, including blankets, book covers, and bookmarks.  Mandy sent me one of these bookmarks with my Book Buddy, and it’s a great addition to my collection of bookmarks.
