Giving up… on Nation

nation Ok, I tried… I have read 150 pages of Nation by Terry Pratchett and am just not getting into it.  I don’t know what it is because I am definitely intrigued by the premise and I think it sounds so interesting, but the book is just not grabbing me.  I think it has to do with the characters – I haven’t connected with any of them, and that’s a huge thing for me.  I NEED to have some interest in at least one of the major characters.  So, unfortunately, I’m giving up on this one.  It’s very rare that I give up on books, especially this far into them, but it’s just not worth my time to read a book I’m not enjoying when there’s so many more I WILL enjoy.

2nds Challenge

I’ve decided to join the 2nds Challenge.  The challenge is to read 12 books in 2009 by authors we’ve only read once before.  All of the books on my list I already own, which will help me to read more of the books on my shelves. :)   Here’s my list:

1. Saturday – Ian McEwan

2. Bel Canto – Ann Patchett

3. The Post-Birthday World – Lionel Shriver

4. The Robber Bride – Margaret Atwood

5. Fever 1793 – Laurie Halse Anderson

6. The Truth About Forever – Sarah Dessen

7. The Little Friend – Donna Tartt

8. Gilead – Marilynne Robinson

9. The Virgin Suicides – Jeffrey Eugenides

10. Inkspell – Cornelia Funke

11. The Good Mother – Sue Miller

12. Blue Water – A. Manette Ansay
